Emmaus/Chrysalis Community
We partner alongside the Sonrise Emmaus community to help host a number of their walks each year.
The “Walk to Emmaus” is a 72-hour experience. The weekend begins on Thursday evening and ends Sunday evening. At Emmaus you will spend three busy but very enjoyable days, usually at a retreat center. You will live and study together in singing, prayer, worship, and discussion. Discussions center around fifteen talks given by laity and clergy. These talks present the theme of God’s grace, and how that grace comes alive in the Christian community and expresses itself in the world. You’ll also discover how grace is real in your life, and how you can live in the life of grace, bringing grace to others. You will have the opportunity to participate in the daily celebration of Holy Communion, and to begin to understand more fully the presence of Christ in his body of believers. You will experience God’s grace personally through the prayers and acts of service of a living support community.
If you would like more info regarding this community or how to participate in one of their walks please visit the following website SONrise Emmaus Community.
Meals on Wheels
Today, the average life expectancy is at a record high of 79 years. As we get older, even the most independent among us may experience physical declines or financial hardship that strips away our independence. Add to that an increase in geographic mobility of our families, and the result is millions of seniors left behind, hungry and alone. As a church we have partnered with Meals On Wheels to help meet this need. Please contact our church office via email or phone to get more info. To learn more about go to Meals on Wheels.
Family Promise
We are part of the Family Promise Network. The Family Promise of Greater Kingsport, has a targeted vision and a broad range of programs to end family homelessness in our community. Our name refers to the promise that local congregations and others in our community make to the families we serve. This highlights the promise, the potential, and the inherent value in every family.Since opening our doors in 2000, we have served thousands of individuals — and over 2,000 families with children. Last year alone, several families with children were successfully housed and able to maintain those homes, reflecting our 98% success rate of helping families build a life of self-sufficiency. We remain committed to the practice of hospitality and our core program, the self-sufficiency shelter program. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has worked over the past 20+ years to dream, establish, support, and sustains the success at Family Promise of Greater Kingsport. Homeless families are transformed, obtain housing, and increased their quality of living. We look forward to continuing to build on that success working alongside people like you.
